Mull and Iona – a Macs Adventure Day 3

We made the most of Day , by walking to the  North shore of Iona in the morning and then visiting the Abbey.   It was a very pleasant morning but the highlight of the day was the boat trip to Staffa, home of Fingal’s Cave the inspiration for Mendelsson’s Hebrides Overture.   Our boat trip was with Staffa Trips.

We saw lots of Puffins on Staffa !

Mull and Iona – a Macs Adventure Day 1 and 2

We took a trip booked through Macs Adventure to the wonderful Islands of Mull and Iona.  Having driven to Oban, we got the Calmac  car ferry over to Mull.  We then drove to the passenger ferry at Fionnphort and were lucky to catch the first ferry of the day, following an electrical fault.  The staff at Macs Adventure had been very helpful in supporting us when we found out the ferry was broken. Luckily we caught the ferry as planned. We stayed at Ardoran House on Iona which was the perfect place to explore the island.  We used some guide books to help with our walking choices.  These were Walking on the Isle of MullMull and Iona 40 Favourite Walks and Walking The Isles of Mull, Iona, Coll and TireeDay 1 was a travelling day and on  Day 2 we explored Iona walking to the Abbey and the North end of the Island and then to Port na Curiach at the southern end of Iona. We covered 11 miles. The scenery was stunning with good lots of good wildlife on display – sanderlings and oyster-catchers being favourites. We even heard and caught a glimpse of the illusive corncrake.  We had a very pleasant meal in The St Columba Hotel
